Chickasha, Okla. – The No. 21-ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers took the series opener 10-0 over the Mid-America Christian University Evangels tonight (Apr. 6) at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.

The Drovers got seven shutout innings from Francis Ventura, including four strikeouts on two hits.

Ventura's offensive support was largely supplied by Alexander Cortes, who drove in four runs and went three-of-four.

Cortes keyed two big innings for USAO, doubling home two runs to spark a three-run second and then hitting a two-run single in a four-run seventh frame.

Ryan Moseley, Pedro Varela and Jerry McNew each had a hit for the Evangels (14-24, 5-8 SAC), while Chevin Noone struck out two in a 2 1/3 scoreless relief appearance.

Randy Ventura and Kenniel Rivera each had two RBIs for the Drovers (29-12, 9-6 SAC).

MACU will now host USAO in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (Apr. 8) beginning at 1 pm at James Curtis Field.
