Plainview, Texas – The Mid-America Christian University Evangels won 9-7 today (Apr. 22) over the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers to capture the series win at Wilder Field in Plainview, Texas.

The Evangels took two of three over the weekend from the Pioneers and are currently in sole possession of sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 10-11 league mark, just a half game behind Southwestern Christian University for the fifth spot.

The decisive inning came in the seventh when the Evangels were down 7-6 but scored three times, capped by an RBI single by Colt Pickens that plated Pedro Varela.

Kevin Lentzner and Cameron Kirk each singled to begin the inning, with Lentnzer scoring the first run of the frame on an error and Kirk being chased home on an RBI from Ryan Moseley.

Reliever Seth Keith made the lead stand for the Evangels, finishing off 5 2/3 solid innings out of the bullpen that featured six strikeouts and only one walk. He allowed two earned runs on four hits.

The Evangels (19-28, 10-11 SAC) broke out to an early lead as Jacob Martinez hit a two-run double to key a four-run first inning.

Moseley then singled home two runs in the third that gave the Evangels a 6-1 lead.

The Pioneers would rally back with a four-run fourth inning before taking the lead with a run in both the fifth and sixth frames.

Nolberto Rondon started for the Evangels and allowed four runs, but just one earned in 3 1/3 innings. Rondon had five strikeouts and four walks.

Moseley bolstered the Evangels' offensive attack from the leadoff spot by going three-for-four with three RBIs.

Martinez went two-for-six with a pair of RBIs, while Pickens and Aaron Davis were each two-for-five with an RBI.

The Pioneers (19-25, 7-14 SAC) also got solid production from the top of their lineup, as Will Bass was two-for-four and drove in two runs.

The Evangels will next play a doubleheader at Bethany College Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 25) starting at 1 pm in Lindsborg, Kan.
