OKLAHOMA CITY – After suffering a straight sets loss on Friday night, the Mid-America Christian University Volleyball team was back in action on Saturday for a noon match at the Gaulke Activity Center against one of the preseason favorites in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Lady Evangels put up a spirited fight, but in the end, they were unable to find a result.

MACU (2-9, 1-4 SAC) battled valiantly, but Texas Wesleyan University (14-1, 4-1 SAC) was able to keep the Lady Evangels at bay, taking the straight sets win 25-21, 25-13, 25-13.

MACU rallied from an early deficit to take a trio of early leads in the first set. The Lady Evangels notched 14 kills in the first set, but as the stanza wore on, Texas Wesleyan continued to inch away, slowly opening a lead that eventually reached six at 22-16. MACU pushed back one last time in the set and cut the deficit to three with a service ace from Laurel Church to pull to within 24-21, but Texas Wesleyan took the final point of the set to claim the 25-21 win.

MACU began to run out of gas in the second set, as a 9-2 run for Texas Wesleyan turned a manageable deficit of 11-8 into a commanding lead of 20-10as the Rams coasted to the 25-13 set win, and the third set started out like it was to be more of the same. The Rams sprinted to a 13-6 lead before MACU summoned one final charge. Gabrielle Poling served MACU on a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to 14-11, but Texas Wesleyan closed the match on a 12-2 spurt to take a 25-13 set win to complete the sweep.

Breeana Fritschow led all players in the match with 10 kills, marking the third time in three matches she has reached double-figures. Melissa Hoppal had 25 assists, and Poling notched a team leading 10 digs.

The Lady Evangels head out on the road on Tuesday, September 26, and the road does not get any easier. MACU will head across town to take on the Stars of Oklahoma City University (7-5, 4-1 SAC) at 7 p.m.
