PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Mid-America Christian University women's soccer team opened their 2017 Sooner Athletic Conference slate on Tuesday afternoon, and despite the rainy conditions in west Texas, the Lady Evangels did not miss a beat.

MACU (6-1, 1-0 SAC) got a pair of first half goals from Brittney Stephens the day after Stephens was named the SAC player of the week, and the offense exploded in the second half, cruising past Wayland Baptist University (1-6, 0-1 SAC), 6-0.

Stephens got things going in the 16th minute, lofting a shot into the far side netting from the top right wing corner of the box. She made it 2-0 in the 29th minute, cashing in a breakaway to double the Lady Evangels' lead, and MACU took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Jasmine Chacon-Diaz found the back of the net in the 65th minute, converting a pass from Alissa Tapp to make it 3-0. Kierra Morgan tallied her third goal of the season in the 79th minute, and Tapp scored almost exactly five minutes later to make it 5-0. With just 1:24 to play in the match, Angelica Ceballos capped the scoring as Tapp earned her third assist of the match and MACU took the win 6-0.

Jennifer Starwalt (4-0) ran her shutout streak to 296:42 with her third straight shutout. She made four saves in the match to earn the clean sheet, and the loss was charged to Erin Moon (0-6) who made three saves in the match.

MACU will step out of regulation play on Thursday and head to Denton, Texas for an exhibition match against the University of North Texas Mean Green (5-2-2) at 4 p.m. MACU's next regular season match will be on October 3 at 2 p.m. when MACU will welcome St. Gregory's University (4-3, 0-0 SAC) to Evangel Field in Oklahoma City.
