OKLAHOMA CITY – Self-inflicted mistakes have been the issue for the majority of the season for the Mid-America Christian University volleyball team. The Lady Evangels hosted Southwestern Christian University on Tuesday evening, and the problem again played a role as MACU fell in straight sets.

MACU (3-11, 2-6 SAC) committed nearly three times as many attack errors at SCU (10-5, 4-4 SAC) in the match, and MACU fell in straight sets 25-12, 25-23, 25-13.

Both teams had 10 kills in the first set, and MACU took an early 3-1 lead, but a 9-1 run from the Eagles turned the tide and MACU was unable to recover. MACU made eight errors in the set to just one for the Eagles, and SCU took the set 25-12. The second set was much closer, but again miscues hindered the Lady Evangels. MACU battled back from a two point deficit late to tie the set at 23, but a setting error gave the Eagles a set point chance, and they cashed it in to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-23 set win. The third set was all SCU from the start, as they sprinted out to a 4-0 lead and MACU never was closer than three in the rest of the set, as SCU closed it out in three sets with a 25-13 win.

MACU only had three fewer kills than SCU (35-32) but 21 attack errors played a huge role in the match. Laurel Church led the Lady Evangels with eight kills, Melissa Hoppal had 20 assists, and Breeana Fritschow had 12 digs to lead MACU individually.

MACU will be at home again on Friday night when they welcome St. Gregory's University (14-6, 4-3 SAC) to the Gaulke Activity Center at 7 p.m.
