8/24/07 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - It is a new day for the men's soccer program. With several key returnees and a quality incoming recruiting class, expectations are high.

The Mid-America Christian University Evangels will host Our Lady of the Lakes University at 1:00 p.m. August 24 at James Curtis Field.

This is the first regular season game for the Evangels. MACU battled the University of Science and Arts last Tuesday in an exhibition match-up with the Evangels falling 3-2.

"We played well against USAO, but we could not capitalize on some opportunities," Coach Zac Bice said. "It was a good start to our season."

This is a new look Evangel squad with only four players returning from the year before. However, this is the most talented team that Bice has put together while coaching at MACU.

"We are young, but talented. I think that we will surprise some teams and fans this year," Bice stated.

The Evangels will be led by junior Bryce Jantz who was the team leader in goals scored last season.

As the Evangels enter the 2007 season offering scholarships for the first time in university history, the Evangels will no longer be able to compete for the NCCAA Division II title, however they will be setting their eyes on a berth to the NAIA or NCCAA Divisions I championships.

"I believe that if we play hard that we can make a run at the play-offs," Bice said.
