MACU Soccer Volunteers at Mustang Elementary

Oct. 30, 2008

10.30.08 - Mustang, Okla.- The men's and women's soccer teams of Mid-America Christian University took time away from practice and school work last week to volunteer at Mustang Elementary school.

"The students at Mustang Elementary really embraced our athletes," Head Soccer Coach Zach Bice said. "They were really excited to have us in their classrooms and were eager to learn."

The athletes helped in first through fifth grade classes doing various projects. Some of the athletes read to the students and helped them with math projects. Other classes were painting pumpkins and doing art projects.

The MACU soccer players also answered questions about being a student athlete.

"We had a great time and hope to have other opportunities to volunteer at Mustang Elementary," Bice said. "A couple of our players have even decided to change their major to elementary education after spending the afternoon with the kids. I think it was just as meaningful for us as it was for the kids. I felt like our student athletes represented MACU and the athletic department well."
