9.30.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University men's soccer team dropped a conference match to the Oklahoma City University Stars 6-2 on Tuesday night at Stars Field.
Although, the Evangels started strong, with a goal by Bryce Jantz in the eighth minute of play the Stars were able to regain the lead just six minutes later with a pair of goals in the 14th minute. OCU was able to notch one more goal before halftime making it 3-1 heading into the break.
Abel Renteria scored an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to put MACU back in the match. The Evangels were unable to capitalize and let three goals get by them in the second half, leaving the final score 6-2.
"Overall I am pleased with the way our guys played tonight," Head Soccer Coach Zach Bice said. The score did not indicate how the game actually went. OCU is a good team with only one loss. We got up a goal early and were unable to recover once they got two goals up. We plan to build on the success we had in the game tonight and correct our errors in preparation for our matches to come."
The loss drops MACU to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while OCU improves to 8-1 and 3-0 in conference action.
The Evangels are back at home on Friday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. to take on conference opponent Southern Nazarene University.
