Evangels lose 4-3 shootout at Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- A hat trick by Alex Gang propelled the Oklahoma City Stars to a 4-3 win over the Mid-America Christian Evangels in a Sooner Athletic Conference shootout Saturday night (Oct. 9).
It was the Evangels that got on the board first thanks to an own goal in the 29th minute of action.

Gang tied the score nine minutes later with his first goal off a cross from Steven Shorter.

Francis Malalou gave the Stars the lead off of Shorter's second assist six minutes into the second half.

Gang then made it a two-goal lead for the Stars (6-3, 2-1 SAC) at the 62:32 mark.

Casey King helped the Evangels (4-5-2, 1-3 SAC) fight back by connecting on his team-leading fifth goal of the season on an assist from Gabriel Gonzalez in the 69th minute that cut the lead to 3-2.

But Gang proved to be too much as he completed the hat trick on a feed from John Dill that put the Stars back up by two goals.

Jeremiah Huff finished up the scoring for MACU with a goal with just 43 seconds left on a deflection off the goalkeeper.

The Stars held a 13-9 advantage in shots overall and an 11-7 edge in shots-on-goal.

Austin Custar made seven saves in the net for the Evangels, while Andy Fitzpatrick stopped four shots for OCU.

The Evangels will next host Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 12) at 3 p.m.
