Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Casey King scored with five seconds left in double-overtime and a wild celebration immediately ensued as the Mid-America Christian Evangels defeated the McPherson (Kan.) Bulldogs in dramatic fashion 1-0 on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 25).
With the match scoreless and 10 seconds remaining, the Evangels attempted a corner kick and after a shot by Duncan Mbugua deflected to the middle of the box, King was right there to capitalize and put it through the net for the victory.
Benny Olvera also made a critical team save three minutes into the first overtime by running over and knocking away a potential game-winning shot by Brent Mulford.
The Evangels (3-2-2) out-shot the Bulldogs 25-11 overall but 7-3 on-goal, as opportunities around the net were scarce for both schools.
King had a game-high six shots for the Evangels.
Geverton Ost led the Bulldogs with three shots.
Austin Custar made two saves for MACU and the Bulldogs' Blake Jett recorded six stops.
The Evangels will now open up the conference season by hosting St. Gregory's on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 28) at 3 p.m.
