Evangels nipped at Southwestern (Kan.), 2-1

Winfield, Kan. -- Two goals by Karlo Sanchez proved to be just enough to propel the Southwestern (Kan.) Builders to a 2-1 win over the Mid-America Christian Evangels Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 14) in Winfield, Kan.

The match was scoreless into the second half when Sanchez scored the first of his two goals off an assist from Miguel Rodriguez at the 56:35 mark.

Thirteen minutes later, Sanchez found the net again on a feed from Patrick Taylor for a 2-0 lead.

Jeremiah Huff made it a one score game with a goal from Daniel Gallegos in the 83rd minute, but that's as close as the Evangels (2-2-1) could come despite out-shooting the Builders 20-17 overall.

Zane Bourne made four saves in the net for the Evangels, while the Builders' Ryan Varney made six stops.

The Evangels will stay in the Sunflower state and play at McPherson (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17) at 4 p.m.
