Evangels lose tough one to OBU, 2-1 in SAC opener

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian Evangels lost a hard fought 2-1 match to the Oklahoma Baptist Bison in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 27) at Evangel Field.

The match was physical throughout and was scoreless through the first half and remained that way until Tito Silva scored the first of his two goals by heading in a corner kick from Matheus Costa in the 64th minute of the second half.

15 minutes later, Silva added another score off an assist from Victor Costa to give OBU a 2-0 lead at the 79:30 mark.

The Evangels (2-4-1, 0-1 SAC) weren't through as Daniel Gallegos found the net after a corner kick from Willy Deleon in the 80th minute.

But the Bison (5-4, 1-0 SAC) held on the remaining nine minutes for the win.

Deleon led the Evangels with five shots and Silva had a match-high seven shots for the Bison.

MACU's Zane Bourne and OBU goalkeeper Marcus Oliveira each made six saves in the net.

The Evangels will next be at St. Gregory's on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 1) at 2 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
