Mbugua Helps Evangels Surge into Third Place in the SAC with 2-1 win at Oklahoma Baptist

Shawnee, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels moved into a tie for third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference behind Duncan Mbugua's two goals that powered a 2-1 victory over the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison Saturday afternoon (Oct. 27) in Shawnee, Okla.

The Evangels are currently tied with Wayland Baptist University for the third spot and will await their SAC Postseason Tournament fate following WBU's home match against Lubbock Christian University next Tuesday night (Oct. 30).

The Evangels (9-5-1, 3-3-1 SAC) had to rally from behind after Victor Costa scored off a pass from Mario Maia at the 29:08 mark of the first half.

But Duncan Mbugua had the answers as he scored the first of his two goals off a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper early in the second half.

Mbugua then scored the game-winning goal off a header from Raphael Bonnelle at the 50:45 point.

Goalkeeper Tyler McIntosh made it stand with eight saves in the match to add to his conference-leading save total of 114 for the season.

The Evangels were out-shot 25-22 overall and 9-7 on-goal.  Wily Deleon had a team-high five shots for MACU, while Costa led everyone with eight shots for OBU.
