McMurry Strikes late to defeat Evangels 3-2 in NCCAA Regional Semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Colin Lund snapped a 2-2 tie with just 11:07 left in regulation off of Desmond Williams' third assist of the match to lift the McMurry University War Hawks to a 3-2 win over the Mid-America Christian University Evangels and advance to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional championship game tomorrow afternoon.  The title match will be held at noon at Southwestern Christian University.

The winning score came at the 78:53 mark when Williams beat the defense down the field and fed Lund with a cross that he put into the net.

The teams exchanged goals in the first half, with the Evangels getting on the board first on a header from Andrew Webster off a corner kick by Raphael Bonelle eight minutes into the match.

Lund and Williams then hooked up for the first time at the 24:45 mark to tie the match.

After Bonelle put the Evangels back on top with a score from Duncan Mbugua, Ryan Prince took a cross from Williams and scored in the 35th minute to make it 2-2.

The Evangels (9-7-2) out-shot the War Hawks 19-17 overall, led by Bonelle's match-high six shot-attempts.  Lund led McMurry with four shots.  The shots-on-goal were even at 11-11.

MACU's Tyler McIntosh stopped eight shots and Neil O'Sullivan recorded nine saves for the War Hawks.

Seniors playing in their final home match for the Evangels were Andrew Webster, Brett Brown, Duncan Mbugua, Willy Deleon, Abeni Yosef, Brian Armstrong, Andy Mendoza and Ryan Hayes.  This large group of seniors helped the Evangels enjoy their best season since joining the NAIA, including earning a spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament for the first time in the program's history.
