OKLAHOMA CITY --
Raphael Bonelle scored a pair of goals to propel the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a 4-1 victory over the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 28) at MACU Soccer Field.
Bonelle scored the first of his two goals after
Brett Brown's shot attempt went off the keeper. Bonelle put the deflection back into the net at the 21:35 mark for a 1-0 lead.
He then struck again in the 38th minute that stretched the lead to two goals.
The Evangels (2-0) weren't through in the first half as
Brian Armstrong took a feed from
Ryan Hayes and scored with just 39 seconds left to give MACU a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
Duncan Mbugua, fresh off his double-overtime heroics in the season-opener, finished the scoring by putting in a pass from
Abel Renteria at the 62:40 mark.
Taylor Vanderford scored the Eagles' lone goal off a free kick with 4:21 remaining.
Tyler McIntosh, the reigning NCCAA Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week, continued his stellar play by making nine saves and allowing just the one goal late. Through the first two matches of his career, McIntosh has made 20 saves with an 0.47 goals-against-average.
The Evangels won despite being out-shot 22-14 overall. MACU did hold a slight 11-10 edge in shots-on-goal.
Bonelle led the Evangels with four shots, while Ricardo Chinchilla had a match-high five shots for the Eagles.
The Evangels will look to make it three straight wins to open the season by hosting Bethel College (Kan.) on Friday afternoon (Aug. 31) at 4:30 p.m.
