Men's Soccer off to best ever start with 2-0 win over Bethel College

OKLAHOMA CITY -- With a 2-0 victory over the Bethel College Threshers Friday afternoon (Aug. 31) at MACU Soccer Field, the Mid-America Christian University Evangels improved to 3-0 for the first time since joining the NAIA back in the 2008 season.

The Evangels got there by out-shooting the Threshers by a whopping 39-4 tally.

Known for his defense, returning All-Conference performer Andrew Webster got things started for the Evangels by scoring his first goal since the 2009 season to put MACU up 36 minutes into the match.

Raphael Bonelle then gave the Evangels a two-goal lead with his team-high third score of the season at the 59:51 mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Tyler McIntosh made three saves in notching his second shutout of the season before leaving with around two minutes left due to an injury.

Casey Budd kept the Threshers close by recording 11 saves in the net.

Bonelle and Abel Renteria each led the Evangels with six shots apiece.

MACU will next host Bethany College on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 11) at 4 p.m.
