Two late goals lift Evangels to Dramatic Overtime win over Bethany College

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Down 1-0 with less than a minute remaining, the Mid-America Christian University Evangels found a way to win 2-1 in overtime over the Bethany College Swedes in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 11) at MACU Soccer Field.  The victory moves the Evangels to 4-0, continuing their best start since joining the NAIA.

After Lewis Collins snapped a scoreless tie with a goal on a cross from Marcus Wolfenbarger at the 76:00 minute mark to put the Swedes on top, things looked bleak for the Evangels to stay unbeaten.

But the Swedes committed a foul in the box that led to a successful penalty kick from Raphael Bonnelle with just 54 seconds remaining in regulation that tied the score and sent the match into overtime.

In the extra session, the Evangels again struck late as Javier Hernandez found the net with only 33 seconds left to give MACU the dramatic victory.

The Evangels out-shot the Swedes 22-11 overall and 14-7 on-goal, led by Willy Deleon's five shots and Bonnelle's four shot-attempts.  Collins also had a team-best four shots to lead the Swedes.

Tyler McIntosh made six saves in the net for the Evangels, while Kayo Vaz stopped 12 shots for Bethany.

The Evangels will look to stay perfect by playing at Southwestern College (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 15) at 4 p.m. in Winfield, Kan.
