OKLAHOMA CITY -- Junior midfielder Raphael Bonelle scored two goals to help the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to their first Sooner Athletic Conference victory, a 4-1 win over the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions Friday afternoon (Oct. 4) at MACU Soccer Field.
Michael Johns got the Evangels off to a good start early in the match by heading in a corner kick from Javier Hernandez at the 3:10 mark.
After Santiago Pino evened the score for the Lions on a feed from Lee Kounas in the 29th minute, Marcelo Lima put the Evangels back on top by putting in a free kick just five minutes later.
Three minutes later, Lima assisted on Bonelle's first goal when Bonelle gained possession on a breakaway that made it 3-1.
Bonelle then tacked on another score from Lima at the 70:23 mark in the second half.
The shots-on-goal were even at 6-6, but the Lions (3-6, 0-1 SAC) held a 16-12 edge in shots overall.
