Evangels Cruise Past Cougars 3-1 to Advance to NCCAA Regional Title Game

OKLAHOMA CITY -- On a blustery, cold day, Peterson Neri scored twice and Raphael Bonelle added a goal and an assist to lead the Mid-America Christian University Evangels past the Colorado Christian University Cougars 3-1 in the semifinals of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament.

The win advances the Evangels to the championship match Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23) at 2 p.m.  Depending on the weather, the match will either be played at the MACU Socer Field or Putnam City West High School.

Neri wasted no time getting going, scoring his first goal just 2:13 into the match off a corner kick assist from Marcelo Lima.

Bonelle then scored in the 15th minute before assisting on Neri's second score at the 23:33 mark of the first half for a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Graham Delano helped the Cougars (3-15-1) avoid the shutout by blasting in an impressive goal off a free kick just past the midfield line.

Led by Bonelle's seven shot-attempts, the Evangels out-shot the Cougars 22-9 overall and 9-5 on-goal.

Tyler McIntosh made two saves before giving way to Mike Chavira for the final 2:50, who made one save.  Brandon Eide stopped six shots for CCU.
