Bonelle Scores Twice to lift Evangels to Season-Opening 4-2 win over Tabor

OKLAHOMA CITY -- After producing the most goals (10) in MACU history since becoming an NAIA school last season, junior Raphael Bonelle picked up right where he left off with a pair of goals to lead the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a 4-2 victory over the Tabor College Bluejays in their season opener Friday afternoon (Aug. 30) at MACU Soccer Field.

Bonelle's first score came less than four minutes after Kevin Cabello had tied the score at 2-2 in the 30th minute of the first half for the Evangels.  He then scored an important insurance goal by spinning around putting it in the net from 10 yards out in the 68th minute.

The Evangels (1-0) had to rally after Bransyn Felty was the star of the first half for the Bluejays (0-1).  Felty scored the first goal of the match and then added another eight minutes following a tying goal by Michael Johns for the Evangels.

The shot total represented how close of a match it was, as the Evangels held an 11-10 edge in shots overall, but the Jays narrowly out-shot the Evangels 6-5 on-goal.

The Evangels will next host the University of Victoria next Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7) at 2 p.m.
