Evangels Season Ends as OCU Rallies Late for 2-1 Win in SAC Quarterfinals

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The top-seeded Oklahoma City University Stars scored two goals in the final 20 minutes of the second half to overcome a 1-0 deficit and defeat the Mid-America Christian University Evangels 2-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals tonight (Nov. 8) at OCU.

The Stars now move on to the SAC semifinals and will host Texas Wesleyan University on Tuesday (Nov. 11).

The Evangels jumped ahead in the first half on a score by Devin Theisen off an assist from Danny Hernandez in the 20th minute.

That lead held up through the remainder of the half and 25 minutes of the second half until Ruy Vaz tied the score at the 70:34 mark.

Jeffrey Matthews then scored the game-winner with less than five minutes left to give OCU the win.

The shots-on-goal were even at 7-7 but the Stars had an 11-8 edge in shots overall.

Tyler McIntosh made five stops in the net for the Evangels (6-12) and Vladimir Kalajdzic recorded six saves for the Stars (9-4-2).

With the anticipated return of top scorer Danny Hernandez, along with a couple of key players from injuries, the Evangels should have plenty of firepower for the 2015 campaign.
