Devin Theisen's Late Goal Gives Evangels 1-0 Win Over Southwestern (Kan.)

Winfield, Kan. -- Devin Theisen scored with just 5:09 left in regulation to snap a scoreless tie and the Mid-America Christian University Evangels held on for a 1-0 victory over the Southwestern (Kan.) Moundbuilders tonight (Sept. 13) in Winfield, Kan.

After Theisen broke through for the Evangels at the 84:51 mark, the Moundbuilders tried furiously to tie the score in the final minutes.

But two saves from Tyler McIntosh, including one with five seconds left and block by Michael Johns with 16 seconds left allowed the Evangels to fend off the Moundbuilders.

The Evangels (2-2) held an 18-8 shots edge overall and an 8-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.  Paul Copeland tallied a match-high four shots and Tej Trivedi had three shots for MACU.

McIntosh shut out the Moundbuilders with three saves, including those two crucial stops in the final three minutes.

Cullen Grantham started and made five saves for Southwestern and was relieved by Evan Van Schie, who recorded two saves in the final 24:16.

The Evangels will next return home and host Texas College Monday afternoon (Sept. 15) at 4 p.m. at MACU Soccer Field.
