Texas College Rallies for 2-1 Win Over Evangels

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Two goals in the second half propelled the Texas College Steers to a 2-1 win over the Mid-America Christian University Evangels today (Sept. 15) at MACU Soccer Field.

After Danny Hernandez scored to put the Evangels on top 1-0 at the 27:43 mark of the first half, Tashan Beaupierre evened things up for the Steers three minutes into the second half.

It was still 1-1 until Samuel Sanchez got free and hooked the go-ahead shot in from the left side at the 69:27 mark.

The Evangels had opportunities down the stretch to pull even, including a shot by Martin Mata that just glanced off the keeper's hands and back into the field of play.

Hernandez also had a chance to tie the score but his shot with a minute left sailed just over the net.

The Steers out-shot the Evangels 13-11 overall and 7-5 on-goal.  Hernandez tallied a match-high three shots for the Evangels (2-3).

Tyler McIntosh made five stops in the net for MACU, while Eduardo Vargas recorded four saves for the Steers.

The Evangels will next be in action on Saturday afternoon against Friends University at 4:30 p.m. (CST) at Dick's Sporting Good's Park in Commerce City, Colo.
