Evangels Blank Jarvis Christian 3-0 in Season Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels got off on the right foot in the 2014 campaign by blanking the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs 3-0 today (Sept. 2) at MACU Soccer Field.

The match remained scoreless until Kevin Cabello got free in the box and behind the keeper to score in the 33rd minute to put the Evangels on top.

Danny Hernandez then found the net off a feed from Anas Bellarbia with less than two minutes left in the half for a 2-0 lead.

The Evangels made that two goal edge hold up until Devin Theisen blasted in a shot from 30 yards out to put it away.

MACU goalkeeper Tyler McIntosh shut out the Bulldogs on three saves, while Rafael Espinoza allowed three goals and also stopped three shots for the Bulldogs.

The Evangels out-shot the Bulldogs 15-6 overall and held a 6-3 edge in shots-on-goal.

MACU will next play Houston-Victoria on Friday afternoon (Sept. 5) at 4 p.m. in Victoria, Texas.  They will then play Louisiana State University-Alexandria Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6), also at 4 p.m.  Both matches are on the campus of Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas.
