Cabello Sparks Evangels to 5-2 Win Over Friends

DENVER -- Kevin Cabello scored two goals with one assist to power the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a 5-2 victory over the Friends University Falcons in action today (Sept. 20) at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colo.

Cabello struck for his first goal quickly by heading in a throw in from Danny Hernandez just 52 seconds into the contest.

Paul Copeland then put the Evangels (3-3) up by two goals by kicking in a pass from goalkeeper Tyler McIntosh at the 24:59 mark.

The Falcons got on the board and cut the lead in half just three minutes later on a goal by Lucas Coelho in the 27th minute.

MACU scored again in the 34th minute to take a 3-1 lead into half and maintained that edge until Friends again pulled within a goal when Alastair Barnes got free on a breakaway and chipped in a shot at the 71:44 to make it 3-2.

But Cabello made sure the Evangels pulled away by assisting on a header from three yards away by Jose Dozal in the 83rd minute and then heading in his own score two minutes later to put it away.

The overall shots were even at 10-10, with the Evangels holding a 7-4 edge in shots-on-goal.

McIntosh and Friends goalkeeper Jack Matthews each made two saves in the match.

The Evangels will now face Johnson & Wales tomorrow afternoon (Sept. 21) at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
