Stars Pull out Rugged 3-2, Double-Overtime Win Over Men's Soccer Evangels

OKLAHOMA CITY – Andrew Flores scored the game-winning goal early in the second overtime period as the Oklahoma City University Stars slipped by the Mid-America Christian University Evangels 3-2 in a hard-fought Sooner Athletic Conference bout today (Oct. 1) at Evangel Field.

Flores' score came off a pass from the middle to the right side from Logan Stewart 2:06 into the second overtime session.

The Stars threatened to end it sooner, but a leaping save by Jakob O'Meara-Gill on a shot on-goal by Juan Ocampo in the third minute of the first overtime thwarted the threat.

The score became 2-2 when Gleydson Neri headed in a corner kick by Vinny Vilela at the 58:38 point of the second half.

Vilela had given the Evangels the lead at the 19:16 mark of the first half by blasting in a kick from 20 yards away off a pass from Andy Ochoa.

Four minutes later, Alexandre Taiar tied the score for OCU before Stewart gained possession at midfield and darted for a breakaway score with just 11 seconds left in the half to put the Stars up 2-1.

The Evangels (2-7, 0-2 SAC) out-shot the Stars 17-14 overall and also 10-7 on-goal.

Neri had a match-high eight shot attempts for MACU.

O'Meara-Gill recorded four saves in the net for the Evangels, while Vladimir Kalajdzic stopped eight shots for the Stars.

The Evangels will next play at Texas Wesleyan University on Tuesday night (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m. in Ft. Worth, Texas.
