Chickasha, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels made things interesting down the stretch, but a three-goal deficit was too much to overcome as the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers held on for a 3-2 win in Sooner Athletic Conference action tonight (Oct. 21) in Chickasha, Okla.
The Evangels were in a 3-0 hole until Tej Trivedi scored off an assist from Gustavo Urbina at the 55:30 mark of the second half.
11 minutes later, Caleb Roldan scored his fourth goal in his last four matches to suddenly make it a one-goal match.
But that's as close as the Evangels could come as the Drovers staved off the rally to hold on for the win.
The match was scoreless until the 36th minute when Llewellyn Evans scored the first of his two goals to put the Drovers on top.
After Joey Shepherd scored with two minutes left in the opening half to make it 2-0, Evans put the Drovers up by three scores by putting in his second goal three minutes into the second half.
The Drovers (8-7-1, 3-3-1 SAC) out-shot the Evangels 17-11 overall, but the shots-on-goal were even at 7-7.
Jakob O'Meara-Gill made four saves for the Evangels (3-11, 1-6 SAC), while Austen Parker and Chris Brown each played a half in the net for USAO and combined for five saves.
The Evangels will next play Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 25) at St. Gregory's University. The match is set for 3 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
