OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University men's soccer team controlled play for much of the afternoon against Southwestern Assemblies of God University, but midway through the second half, the match remained scoreless. That's when MACU's Caleb Roldan began to assert his will on the match.
Roldan factored either directly or indirectly in each of the three goals that MACU (10-4-1, 4-3-1 SAC) scored in the second half, as the Evangels, blanked SAGU (1-11-3, 0-7-1 SAC) 3-0.
The first half was controlled by MACU, however neither team was able to put a shot on the goal. MACU took seven shots, including several from dangerous areas, and SAGU fired a pair of shots that missed the frame, and at halftime, the match remained scoreless.
If the match was one-sided in the first half, the second half was an all-out onslaught. MACU took 13 shots and did not allow a single shot from SAGU in the final 45 minutes. In the 53rd minute, Roldan made a move to get past SAGU's Jorge Aguilar, and Aguilar responded by taking Roldan down by the shirt collar in the box, and MACU was awarded a penalty, and Aguilar was sent off. Dominik Tajak stepped up and fired the PK into the top of the net to break the scoreless deadlock, and MACU was just getting going. Kacey Owensby found Roldan on the left wing side of the box in the 73rd minute, and Roldan cashed in the goal to double MACU's lead. Just under two minutes later, Roldan took the ball to the end line on the left side of the goal, and he fired a pass back to Tajak who buried a shot for his 19th goal of the season. The Evangels began emptying the bench over the final 15 minutes, and they continued to carry the play, as MACU claimed the 3-0 win.
Jakob O'Meara-Gill (9-3-1) earned the win, playing the first 80:20 before yielding to Liam Ward in the MACU goal. The Loss was charged to Edgar Chavez.
MACU will be back in action on Friday afternoon, when they host the Drovers of the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (11-4-1, 6-2 SAC) at 3 p.m.
