OKLAHOMA CITY - The Sooner Athletic Conference announced the final men's soccer player of the week honors on Monday afternoon, and after pulling an upset win in the SAC quarterfinal, the final Offensive Player of the Week award went to the man who helped MACU to that historic victory.
MACU's Allan Sorato was named the Offensive Player of the Week after his two goal afternoon helped give MACU their first ever win in the SAC tournament - a 2-0 upset victory over the fourth-seeded Oklahoma City University Stars.
Sorato, a 5-8 junior forward from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, finishing off a double assist play from Rai Ramus and Simon Wieschemann to give MACU the lead. As the Evangels continued to frustrate the OCU attack, the match proceeded into the second half, where Sorato struck again. In the 63rd minute, Sorato came down the left wing and ripped a shot into the right corner of the goal to double the MACU advantage to 2-0, and that was all MACU needed.
The Evangels advanced to the Sooner Athletic Conference semifinal for the second year in a row, this time doing so on their first victory in the SAC tournament. Last year, MACU advanced on penalty kicks after drawing the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma. The win sends MACU to the same place they traveled a year ago for the semifinal round, as they head down to Plainview, Texas to take on the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers. The match will kick off at 5 p.m.
