OKLAHOMA CITY – In the history of the Mid-America Christian University men's soccer program, the Evangels had never reached double digits in scoring in a single game. On Tuesday afternoon, that all changed.
MACU (5-1) erupted for eight goals in the second half, as the Evangels broke a trio of MACU single-game offensive records in a 12-1 rout of Dallas Christian College (0-4).
Rai Ramus picked up his first of two assists in the match in the 12th minute. Ramus took a shot from the top of the box near the right post, and Kacey Owensby cleaned up the rebound for his first goal of the season. Just four minutes later, Ramus found Oliver May on the left side of the area, and May rolled a shot home to double the MACU lead to 2-0.
Dallas Christian got on the board in the 31st minute thanks to an own goal from MACU, but just 39 second later, Tiuri Schieving netted his first goal of the afternoon on a free kick to put MACU up 3-1, and two minutes later, Kieran Chance scored his first goal as an Evangel to give MACU a 4-1 lead which they took into halftime.
In the second half, the Evangels erupted.
It took Ramus just 41 seconds into the second help ignite a flurry of goals from MACU. Mid-America got another goal from Schieving, on from Ramus, and two from Van Rheeden all by the 59th minute mark, as the Evangels broke the game open. Chance scored again in the 73rd minute, and Bruno Bandeira, and Francisco Flores added their first MACU goals as well in the rout.
Liam Ward (3-1) earned the win in goal despite not having to make a save in the match, and Jesus Cardenas (0-3) took the loss for Dallas Christian.
The 12 goals set a MACU single match record, as did the eight assists, and the 32-point effort from the Evangels.
MACU will be off this weekend, but the Evangels will return to action at home on September 25th for a double-header against John Brown University (3-3-1, 0-0 SAC). The men's game will kick-off at 4 p.m.
