GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore goalkeeper Austen Parker from the 23rd-ranked Mid-America Christian men's soccer team took home his second award of the week, collecting the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week honor.
The Piedmont, Okla. product was selected after pitching a pair of big time shutouts last week, one coming in a 9-0 victory over NCAA Division II Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 23 before following it up with a 4-0 win over Sooner Athletic Conference preseason favorite the University of Science & Arts in the conference opener on Friday.
In the Evangels' win over the Bison, Parker tallied five saves in MACU's first ever shutout over OBU and its first win over Oklahoma Baptist since 2013. Parker followed it up with a dominant performance against Drovers, tying a season-high six saves for his fifth shutout of the 2019 season, giving Science & Arts its first shutout of the year.
Parker skyrocketed up the NCCAA ranks over the week as he currently holds the top mark for most shutouts and ranks second in the league with an .842 save percentage.
Mid-America Christian will seek its fifth straight win tomorrow as the Evangels will head to Plainview, Texas for a 6 p.m. battle against Wayland Baptist.
