Men’s Soccer Cruises To 9-0 Victory Over Manhattan Christian

WICHITA, Kan. – The Mid-America Christian men's soccer team needed just 6:34 to score three goals as the Evangels found its offensive stride in a 9-0 win over Manhattan Christian (Kan.) in their first ever meeting at the Stryker Sports Complex on Saturday.

SCORING SUMMARY

MATCH SUMMARY
  • Sophomore midfielder Pero Mikulic scored his first game-winning goal less than a minute in off some beautiful passing within the Evangels attack to make it a 1-nil game.
  • Five different Evangels scored MACU's six first half goals, including Endri Copa, Fabian Forisch and Nikola Djuric scoring their first goals of the 2020-21 season.
  • Rodrigo Albuquerque picked up torrid scoring pace in the second half, tallying two of the Evangels three scores as well as adding an assist on MACU's final goal of the match.
  • Dante Luz finished off the MACU scoring with a breakaway goal with 1:08 on the clock when Albuquerque delivered a long pass to an open Mikulic on the breakaway. Instead of trying for the hat trick, he tapped a pass to Luz breaking along with him in the box and slipping the open shot into the left side of the goal to seal the 9-0 victory.

MATCH NOTABLES
  • Mid-America Christian completely dominated the possession, attempting 40 shots while placing 19 on-goal while limiting Manhattan Christian to only three shots and one on-target. The 40 shots sit only behind the 56 in last year's 24-0 win over Bacone for the most shots in a single match during the NAIA era while the 19 shots on-goal is the fifth-best mark in the MACU record books.
  • Rodrigo Albuquerque, Dante Luz and Pero Mikluic each finished the match with two goals and two assists for six points apiece. It was the first time since the Evangels joined the NAIA in 2008 that the team had three different players record at least two goals and two assists in the same match.
  • The nine goals scored and 27 points were each tied for the third-highest single match marks in the NAIA era while the nine assists matched the second-most in a single game.

NEXT UP
  • Mid-America Christian will be back at home on Friday, Oct. 24 as the Evangels will take on Sooner Athletic Conference rival Science & Arts for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Evangel Field.
