Men’s Soccer Opens Season With Shutout Victory Over Texas A&M-Texarkana

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian men's soccer team didn't allow the injury bug to slow it down in its first game of the 2020-21 season against Texas A&M-Texarkana as the Evangels cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Eagles at Evangel Field on Saturday.

SCORING SUMMARY
MATCH SUMMARY
  • Junior forward Rodrigo Albuquerque put Mid-America Christian (1-0) in-front just moments into the match. Albuquerque came up with a clean tackle on the left side near midfield and broke away to score the game-winning goal, slipping his shot just past the keeper into the right corner of the net only 21 seconds after the opening kickoff.
  • In the 23rd minute, Albuquerque added an assist to go with his first goal when he juked his defender on the right side before crossing a pass over to MACU newcomer Luan Cesar for the point-blank goal to give MACU the 2-0 lead heading into the half.
  • Albuquerque notched his fourth career multi-goal match when he tapped in the first goal of the second half off a left side cross from Endri Copa to bring the Evangels lead to three with just under 35 minutes remaining.
  • In his return to the MACU lineup, sophomore Seth Lidell scored his first goal since the 2018 season. On the play, Josue Alanis picked off a Texas A&M-Texarkana (0-1) pass in the box and crossed it over to Lidell on the right side as his header slipped just inside the right post, closing out the MACU scoring at 4-0 with 8:54 on the clock.
