Danny Frid Promoted To Head Men’s Soccer Coach

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian Athletic Director Marcus Moeller is proud to announce Danny Frid as the next head coach of the Mid-America Christian men's soccer team on Wednesday.

Serving as the head assistant coach for the past two seasons, Frid is moving into the lead role after Mitchell Sowerby accepted the head coaching vacancy at Oklahoma Christian last month.

"Danny is ready for this opportunity," said Moeller. "He is a tremendous recruiter, communicator and tactician of the game, but more importantly, he's a great fit with our MACU family, who will continue to put Christ at the center of our program."

"I am beyond excited to be the head coach of the MACU men's soccer program," said Frid. "It's been amazing to be part of the program's development over the past two years and I am thankful to be trusted to continue the journey."

Frid has played a pivotal role in the MACU men's soccer team putting together its two winningest seasons in program history. During the 2019 campaign, Frid helped guide the team to its best finish ever in Sooner Athletic Conference play, going 7-1-1 and locking up the No. 2 seed in the conference tourney.

The Evangels went on to win the NCCAA Central Regional with a 6-3 victory over Southwestern Christian on Nov. 22 before cruising to its first ever NCCAA National Championship, getting a 5-0 victory over Grace (Ind.) on Dec. 7, 2019. That victory over the Lancers allowed MACU to close out the year with a 20-3-1 record, marking the first 20-win season in MACU history.

Mid-America Christian is coming off another stellar 2020 season that saw the Evangels win their second ever SAC Tournament victory, picking up a 3-0 win a shootout over Central Christian after playing to a scoreless tie in regulation at Evangel Field on Apr. 9.

Qualifying for its second ever NAIA National Championship Tournament, the Evangels put together a stellar run through the opening round, topping No. 14 Morningside (Iowa) 4-2 in the shootout after ending two overtimes in a 2-2 draw on Apr. 22. MACU followed it up with another dramatic win on Apr. 24, topping No. 8 Bethel (Tenn.) 3-2 on Mandela Singh-Sharpe's golden goal in overtime.

Mid-America Christian advanced to the final site for the second time, where it fell to St. Thomas (Fla.) 1-0 on May 4 to end the season with a 15-4-3 overall record. The Evangels were ranked No. 9 in the final NAIA Postseason Poll, their highest ranking since joining the organization in 2007.

Under Frid's tutelage, the MACU men's soccer team has amassed a 35-7-4 (.840) overall record, which includes a 13-2-2 (.875) mark against SAC competition.

"Danny is an incredible leader and I could not be more excited to have him take the reins of the program," added Moeller. "We've had unprecedented success in men's soccer over the past three seasons and I have full confidence Danny will build upon the strong foundation of the program."

Prior to MACU, Frid served as a coach for the Oklahoma Energy Football Club for six seasons. Frid still coaches the Navy 08 and White 08 clubs after moving into the NPL Director role in 2020.

Frid held a strong familiarity with the Sooner Athletic Conference before he even joined the Evangels in 2019. Frid was the 2014 SAC Player of the Year after leading the Oklahoma City Stars to the SAC regular season title. Frid spent two seasons with OCU after playing one season at NCAA Division I Missouri State, where he was a key member of the Missouri Valley Conference championship team. Frid played his freshman campaign for Southwestern Christian in 2011.

"I want to say thank you to Mitchell for putting his faith in me, which has ultimately prepared me for this day," Frid added. "I also want to thank our Athletic Director, Marcus, our President and Vice President for their continued support and belief in me as well as the direction of the program. Last and certainly not least, I want to thank my wife Jordan for allowing me to chase my dreams and coach the game I love."
