OKLAHOMA CITY – After leading the No. 9 Mid-America Christian men's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Friends and a 2-1 win against Tennessee Wesleyan last week, freshman forward Ricardo Ferreira was named the NCCAA Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week while Dejue Johnson was tabbed as the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Ferreira, a freshman forward from Portugul, netted his first career goal with the Evangels in the 64th minute in the win against Friends.
Johnson, a senior defender from Jamaica, regrouped the Evangels defense after conceding a goal to the Falcons in the fifth minute, holding Friends to just one off-target shot over the final 85 minutes.
Both Ferreira and Johnson made their presences felt once again MACU's 2-1 overtime victory against Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday. After giving up a goal in the 24th minute, Ferreira netted the equalizer in the 31st minute before coming back later in the match and dishing the assist to Mason Gonzalez on his golden goal in the 95th minute.
Johnson once again paced the Evangels defense, limiting the Bulldogs to a season-low five shot attempts for the match.
Currently, Ferreira leads the team with three goals after scoring the equalizer in MACU's 3-2 victory against No. 16 Georgia Gwinnett on Monday while his assist on Rodrigo Albuquerque's game-winner puts the freshman striker at a team-high eight total points on the season.
