No. 2 Men’s Soccer Set to Battle Oklahoma City in Senior Night Showdown

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 2 Mid-America Christian men's soccer team will face a crosstown rival in its Senior Night showcase as the Evangels take on Oklahoma City. Mid-America Christian will hold its Senior Night ceremony at the Dill Soccer Field immediately following the completion of the women's soccer game before the match kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

    • Mid-America Christian faced a tough challenge from John Brown. Despite playing down to 10-men for the final 58 minutes of the match, the Evangels persevered when Georg Westerlund knocked in the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute to propel MACU to a 2-1 victory.
    • Even playing down a man for a majority of the match, the Evangels were able to hold the top-scoring offense in the Sooner Athletic Conference to only one goal on 14 shots with just five being on-target.
    • Despite conceding just his third goal of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel was able to make history after tallying four saves for an .800 save percentage. The win marked the 31st of his career, surpassing Tyler McIntosh for the most career wins in MACU program history.
    • After the completion of the women's game (approximately 7 p.m.), the Evangels will be honoring their 10 graduating seniors from the program: Jeremi Abonnel, Fabian Forisch, Mason Gonzalez, Cesar Ramirez, Dante Luz, Sven van den Oever, Bruno Sperandio, Rodrigo Albuquerque, Edward Alderson and Alex Tan.
    • Mid-America Christian will also be celebrating Alumni Night. At halftime of the men's game, the Evangels will hold a welcoming ceremony to the men's soccer alumni in-attendance for the game.

    • While Oklahoma City opened the season with a 10-2 record, the Stars have been struggling the last few games after suffering a 5-1 loss at John Brown on Oct. 15 before falling 3-1 to Southwestern Christian at home on Tuesday.
    • The Stars are led offensively by John Woodhead, who is currently tied for the league lead in the Sooner Athletic Conference with 11 goals and has notched the fourth-most points with 25.
    • A bulk of the Stars offense will run through Woodhead and Lucas de Freitas, who have combined to score nine of OCU's 10 game-winning goals this season and 19 of the squad's 33 goals overall.
    • OCU has also been solid on the defensive end behind senior goalkeeper Danilo Vilani, who currently holds the third-lowest goals against average in the SAC at 1.23 and has saved .759 percent of the shots he's faced.
    • While OCU leads the all-time series, MACU has fared well in the recent series by going 2-0-2 in the last four meetings. In last season's meeting at Brian Harvey Field on Sept. 28, 2021, Fabian Forisch led the Evangels with a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 54th minute while Cesar Ramirez and Rodrigo Albuquerque also each netted a goal.
