No. 2 Men’s Soccer to Face John Brown in SAC Semifinal Showdown

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 2 Mid-America Christian men's soccer team will be seeking to return to the SAC title for the third straight year as the Evangels will face off against fourth-seeded John Brown in the SAC Semifinal at 5 p.m. at the Dill Soccer Field on Tuesday night.

    • Mid-America Christian is coming off a dominant performance over No. 8 seed Wayland Baptist in the Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinal on Tuesday. After taking a 1-0 lead into the half on Luan Cesar's penalty kick goal, the Evangels went on an offensive onslaught by scoring three goals over the final 45 minutes to pull away with a 4-1 victory.
    • The win for MACU marked their third straight SAC Quarterfinal win. The Evangels notched a 3-0 win over Central Christian in the 2021 SAC quarter while tallying a 6-0 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State in the 2020-21 SAC quarterfinal.
    • The Evangels have performed well on both ends of the field in the last two SAC Tournaments. During the 2020-21 SAC Tourney run, the Evangels outscored their opponents 9-1 before coming away with a shootout win over Central Christian. In last season's event, MACU put up a 10-0 goal differential before topping Southwestern Christian 2-0 in the final.
    • Mid-America Christian and John Brown will face off in the SAC Semifinal for the second straight year. In last year's matchup, the Evangels came away with a 5-0 victory at the Dill Soccer Field on Nov. 8, 2021.

    • After suffering a shocking 3-2 defeat at home to Texas Wesleyan in its SAC regular season finale, John Brown got some revenge against the fifth-seeded Rams making a return trip to Siloam Springs, Ark. for the SAC Quarterfinal as the Golden Eagles scored four goals in the first 27 minutes to come away with a 4-1 win.
    • JBU is led offensively by one of the best tandems in the SAC in Jacob Zamarron and Oscar Carballo. The two seniors have combined to score 26 goals and dished out 18 assists.
    • The matchup will feature the two top offenses in the Sooner Athletic Conference as JBU has netted 55 goals at 3.44 goals per game while the Evangels have pushed across 53 goals at a 2.94 per game rate. However, the Evangels have fared better than JBU in SAC play, netting 27 goals (3.00 gpg) while the Golden Eagles have scored 23 (2.56 gpg).
    • Coming into the matchup, Mid-America Christian has won six straight meetings with their last coming in thrilling fashion. With MACU playing down to 10 men over the final 58 minutes, Georg Westerlund came up with the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute to propel MACU to a 2-1 victory.
