No. 8 Men’s Soccer Ready for First Road Match at Friends

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 8 Mid-America Christian men's soccer team after picking up a pair of dominant home wins will hit the road for the first time in 2022 as the Evangels travel to Wichita, Kan. on Tuesday night for a matchup against Friends University. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Adair-Austin Stadium.

    • Mid-America Christian is coming off a dominant home performance against McPherson, a team that has qualified for back-to-back NAIA National Championship Tournament, cruising to a 5-0 victory at the Dill Soccer Field on Aug. 26.
    • The win marked the 14th straight match at the Dill Soccer Field that the Evangels had won or tied.
    • Graduate student forward Rodrigo Albuquerque turned in a pair of milestones in the win. Not only was Albuquerque's penalty-kick goal in the 17th minute the 20th game-winner of his career, but it was also his 50th career goal in his four-year career with MACU.
    • Overall, four different Evangels scored in the matchup as Mason Gonzalez, Kareem Williams and Georg Westerlund all netted their first goals of the season.
    • The 2021 SAC Newcomer of the Year Jack Price played a big impact in the MACU attack, tallying a pair of assists in the victory.

    • Friends is coming off a huge 3-0 road win at Benedictine on Aug. 23. In that win, Falcons striker Juan Zamora netted a pair of second half goals in the 74th and 82nd minutes to help seal the win.
    • Falcons freshman keeper Felipe Garcia was named the KCAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a combined shutout win, tallying seven saves in 85 minutes of action.
    • The Falcons are expecting to make some noise in the KCAC this season as Friends was selected to finish third in the league's preseason poll.
    • The meeting marks the fourth in the all-time series between the two programs. In last year's meeting at the Dill Soccer Field on Aug. 31, the Evangels bounced back from an early Zamora goal as Luan Cesar pushed across the equalizer in the 37th minute before Bruno Sperandio punched in the game-winner with just 1:14 to go in the first half. The Evangels eventually ran away with the 5-1 win thanks to second half goals from Mateus Pasquantonio, Ricardo Ferreira and Sperandio.
    • The last time the two teams met at Adair-Austin Stadium, the Evangels came away with a 3-0 victory on Sept. 18, 2013. In the win, Paul Copeland, Marcelo Lima and Peterson Neri all netted goals for MACU.
