No. 1 Men’s Soccer Slated for Showdown against SAGU in SAC Action

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 1 MACU men's soccer team is preparing to face a strong Southwestern Assemblies of God squad in a battle of two of the top teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference as the Evangels will battle the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Dill Soccer Field.

    • After struggling on the offensive end for most of the season, Mid-America Christian found its stride in the attack last week as the Evangels netted eight goals in a pair of 4-1 victories at Southwestern Christian and at home against Texas Wesleyan.
    • As a result of the sensational week, the Evangels swept the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors as Jack Price received the offensive award for netting four goals and dishing out an assist for nine points on the week while Kareem Williams garnered the defensive accolade after netting a pair of goals and dishing out a pair of assists while also limiting the opposition to just two goals for the week.
    • Price has continued to climb up MACU's NAIA Era season and career record books with his six goals in the last four games. His fourth game-winner on Saturday tied him for the seventh-most game-winners already in a season. With 24 career goals in his third season with the program, the London, England native is just three goals away from matching Dominik Tajak for the second-most career scores as well as two points shy of Tajak for third as well with 59 career points.
    • The Evangels will be needing to take advantage of hits home confines as MACU has just one regular season home match remaining after taking on the Lions, an Oct. 23 Senior Night showdown against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Evangels have put together a 5-0-1 record on the Dill Soccer Field pitch so far in 2023.

    • Southwestern Assemblies of God enters Saturday night's match on a four-game win streak as the Lions are coming off a 3-0 non-conference win against Arlington Baptist on Tuesday.
    • The Lions are led in the attack a sophomore midfielder Ethan Stewart, who comes into the match as one of the SAC's leaders in goals with 11 of SAGU's 29 goals this season and five of his scores coming against league competition.
    • SAGU has also been a solid team on the defense as well, leading the Sooner in goals allowed average at 0.64. David Calvete Beltran has spearheaded the SAGU defensive efforts in goal, posting the second-lowest goals allowed average in the league at 0.83 as well as the second-best save percentage at .800.
    • Mid-America Christian has fared well against the Lions in the last five meetings since the 2019 season and have put up some big numbers in the last three matchups, outscoring Southwestern Assemblies 18-0. In their meeting in Waxahachie last season, the Evangels ran away with a 5-nil win as Rodrigo Albuquerque finished the match with a hat trick.
