No. 1 Men’s Soccer Gets Double Brace in Road Victory at Southwestern Christian

BETHANY, Okla. – The No. 1 MACU men's soccer offensive attack came alive in a big road win at Southwestern Christian as Jack Price and Kareem Williams turned in two-goal efforts in the 4-1 result at Cagle Family Field on Tuesday afternoon.

SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian (8-0-3, 2-0-1) was able to capture the early momentum, putting three shots on-goal in the first 15 minutes as Jack Price put through the go-ahead goal on a breakaway when Kareem Williams won the ball away on the left side and lofted a deep pass to Price, who made a sensational flick into the left side on the run to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Evangels had a good chance to add to it in the 22nd minute when Price was tripped up from 30 yards out on the right side, setting MACU up with a free kick. However, Federico Palacios' free kick pinged off the top of the crossbar, keeping it to a one-goal game.
  • Southwestern Christian (2-6-1, 1-2 SAC) found the equalizer in the 29th minute when some nifty passing from Otavio Avila to Ethan Bonaparte at the top of the box led to a diagonal pass toward the left side of the box for Jason Hogan, as he punched in his team-leading fourth goal into the top right before MACU goalkeeper Claudio Fuentealba could react to set the score at 1-1.
  • MACU came up with the game-winner in the 40th minute when a free kick taken by Yasha Schaerer from the right side toward the center of the penalty box as Williams smashed a 10-yard header into the top left corner to send the Evangels into the half with the 2-1 advantage.
  • In the 60th minute, Price got himself a brace when Palacios dribbled past a defender into the far left corner, lofting a perfectly floated cross toward Price at the right post, punching in the five-yarder inside the post to set the score to 3-1.
  • The Evangels capped the scoring just two minutes later when Schaerer took a long distance free kick from the left side into the right side of the 18-yard box. Charlie Betts put a well-placed header on-goal that SCU goalkeeper Santiago Esparza made a stellar leaping save on, but Williams was left unmarked on the left side of the box, booting in the wide open uncontested eight-yarder into the left side to seal the 4-1 final.
