Price Named NCCAA Player of the Year, Record Four Earn All-America First Team Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. – For the first time in program history, the MACU men's soccer team placed four players on the NCCAA Division I Men's Soccer All-America First Team with Jack Price, Kareem Williams, Yasha Schaerer and Claudio Fuentealba receiving the distinguished honor while Price was selected as the National Player of the Year.

The 2023 Evangels squad put together their first undefeated season in program history, finishing the year with a 17-0-4 overall record while winning the program's third straight Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title with an 8-0-1 league mark and the fourth consecutive SAC Tournament Championship.

Price, a senior forward from London, England, was selected as the NCCAA Player of the Year after finishing the year with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points. Price netted six game-winning goals, which ranked second in the NCCAA while finishing fifth in points and sixth in goals.

Overall, Price is the third MACU player in program history to be named the NCCAA Player of the Year, joining former teammate Rodrigo Albuquerque (2021) and Stephen Nganga (2019).

Williams, a senior defender from Kingston, Jamaica, is earning his first NCCAA All-America accolade after helping lead a MACU defense that ranked second in the NCCAA in goals allowed average (0.81) while pitching the second-most shutouts (9). Williams led the team in minutes played (1726) while serving as the Team Captain for the entire season.

Fuentealba, a junior goalkeeper from Rangacua, Chile, continued a legacy of strong keeping in his first season with the program. Fuentealba wrapped up the season with a 15-0-3 record in-goal, pitching the lowest goals allowed average (0.77) in the NCCAA and recorded 47 saves for the nation's fifth-best save percentage (.770) save percentage to go with the third-most shutouts (8).

Schaerer, a freshman midfielder from Langnau am Albis, Switzerland, was a stable presence for the Evangels in his first year with the program. In his inaugural year, Schaerer finished second on the team in assists (6), while also finishing third on the team in both points (16) and minutes played (1586) to go with the fourth-most goals scored (5).

Mid-America Christian saw its sensational team come to a tough end in the NAIA Tournament Second Round after the Evangels played Bellevue (Neb.) to a 3-3 draw, but the Bruins ended up advancing by a 7-6 score in the postgame shootout at the Dill Soccer Field on Nov. 18.
