No. 2 Men’s Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Play with Pivotal Match at No. 15 Columbia

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 2 MACU men's soccer team's final dress rehearsal before the start of Sooner Athletic Conference play will be a crucial one as the Evangels will travel to Columbia, Missouri for a high-profile NAIA Top 25 matchup against No. 15 Columbia with a 4 p.m. kickoff at R. Marvin Owens Field.

  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-0 record on its home turf, the Dill Soccer Field after picking up a 2-1 win over Arizona Christian on Thursday before topping Bellevue on Saturday.
    • After putting together two stifling defensive performances, senior defender Sebastian Rebolledo was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. After playing all 180 minutes for MACU, Rebolledo was a key piece of an Evangels backfield that held a high-powered Arizona Christian offense to a season-low six shots, just four of which were on-goal. MACU was also the first team this season hand the Bruins a shutout loss, limiting BU to only 11 shots with just four being on-target.
    • Offensively, the MACU offensive attack has continued to remain balanced with four different players netting goals for the Evangels in last week's decisions. Of the 14 goals netted by MACU, eight different players have scored with Kolby Godbolt and Jack Price leading the attack thus with three goals apiece.
    • Through non-conference play thus far, Mid-America Christian has continued to prove itself in close games as all of the Evangels' decisions this season have come by two goals or less.

    • Caden Hof – FR – GK
      • 2-1-1 W-L, 1.25 GAA, 16 Saves, .762 SV%, 2 SHO
  • Team Notes:
    • Columbia is coming off a dominant showing against MACU's Sooner Athletic Conference rival John Brown on Monday, defeating the Golden Eagles 3-0. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the half on Joshua Peterson 39th minute score before netting two more second half goals against a short-handed JBU team after playing with 10-men following a 40th-minute red card issued to the Golden Eagles.
    • Similarly, to the Evangels, CC features a balanced offensive attack that's led by junior midfielder Luke Hynes. The junior mid has efficiently scored his team-best three goals on four shots while all three of his on-target shots have found the back of the net.
    • The Cougars have split time in the goalkeeper position between a pair of freshmen stoppers in Caden Hof and Alejandro Molto Munoz. While Hof has played a bulk of the season for Columbia, Munoz has gotten the start in the last two matches while pitching a pair of shutouts against No. 22 Central Methodist (Mo.) and John Brown. In those two games, Munoz has stopped eight shots to earn a pair of shutouts.
    • Tomorrow's match will mark just the second all-time meeting between Mid-America Christian and Columbia. The two squared off at the Dill Soccer Field on Sept. 12 last season as the Evangels came away with the 2-0 victory after Luan Cesar put one away early on in the ninth minute before Rodrigo Albuquerque gave the Evangels some late insurance with a goal in the 88th minute.
