Musso, Qasha Net Scores on Senior Night No. 12 Men’s Soccer Slams Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – With No. 12 Men's Soccer hosting Central Christian in its Senior Night match at the Dill Soccer Field on Saturday, a pair of seniors found the back of the next as Pietro Musso netted the game-winner in just the ninth minute before Uviwe Qasha scored his third of the season as the Evangels ran away with a 4-0 victory over Central Christian.
 
SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Mid-America Christian (7-1-3, 2-0-1 SAC) made the most of their seven shots in the first half, scoring on four of them against Central Christian (5-4-2, 1-1-1 SAC).
    • The first goal of the match was put through in the ninth minute when, scored by Pietro Musso in the 9th minute. Following a throw-in by Uviwe Qasha deep in the Tigers defensive third, Tony Ngombi from the left side of the box relayed it to Musso in the middle,who rifled a strong 10-yard blast toward the right post that ricochet off the back of a Tigers defender and into the left side of the net.
    • MACU scored its second goal in the 18th minute when Qasha, who was on the receiving end of a pass from Francois Geris-Rey on the right side of the box took a one-time dribble on the cutback to the right before striking a low-liner into the left side of the net from 10-yards out to extend the lead to 2-0.
    • Mario Garcia scored the Evangels' third goal in the 35th minute off a breakaway when he perfectly executed a give-and-go with Jimmy Cabrera down the left side before cutting and rifling a 20-yard grounder inside the left post
    • With only two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the half, Akira Ono had a take away just outside the left side of the penalty box and was taken down, forcing the yellow card to come out and set the Evangels up for a free kick. On the try, Carlos Lobo stepped to the spot and fired a 19-yard left-footed strike past the wall and inside the left post, setting the score to 4-0.
  • Second Half
    • Mid-America Christian took 13 shots compared to seven shots for CCCK in the half.
MATCH NOTES
  • Overall, Mid-America Christian controlled the possession by outshooting the Tigers 13-7. However, MACU's defensive back row was downright superb, holding CCCK to not a single shot on-goal while the Evangels placed six on-frame.
  • The opening goal for Pietro Musso marked his third career game-winning goal and his second of the season as well as his fifth career score in two years with MACU.
  • On his senior night, Uviwe Qasha recorded his first career three-point game in his third season with the Evangels while his goal marked his third of the season. Qasha has now tallied seven points on the season to move into third on MACU's list only behind fellow senior Enzo Nogue (16) and Federico Palacios (10).
  • Francois Geris-Rey tallied an assist in his Senior Night match, marking his second assist of the season and the third of his four-year MACU career.
  • The goal netted by Mario Garcia was his second score of the season while the assist for Jimmy Cabrera went down as his second dime of the year.
  • The Evangels recorded their third shutout of the season as senior goalkeeper Claudio Fuentealba and redshirt junior Alvaro Morera combined on the clean sheet.
  • Facing the program that he had coached for the last 12 seasons, head coach Aaron Hoxie mentored the Evangels to their 11th win in the last 12 meetings against Central Christian, going 11-0-1 in that time frame. The four-goal differential is MACU's largest margin of victory over the Tigers since getting a win in McPherson, Kansas on Oct. 14, 2017.
  • Before the match, MACU honored its 11 graduating seniors: Claudio Fuentealba, Edoardo Salmaso, Oscar Gallardo, Pietro Musso, Enzo Nogue, Sebastian Rebolledo, Rahmon Oduborisa, Francois Geris-Rey, Emanuele Grumo, Uviwe Qasha and Julian Bolden.

  • Mid-America Christian will now brace for one of its biggest home matches of the season as the Evangels host SAC co-leader John Brown for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at the Dill Soccer Field on Tuesday.
