No. 11 Men’s Soccer Honed for Home-Opener against Benedictine

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 11 MACU men's soccer team after coming off a highly success road swing at No. 6 Bethel and No. 7 Grace last week is ready for its first home match of the season as the Evangels host a red-hot Benedictine for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at the Dill Soccer Field on Friday.

    • The Evangels opened their 2024 campaign with a pair of excellent results last week during its Indiana road trip as MACU battled No. 6 Bethel to a 1-1 draw in Mishawaka on Aug. 22 before coming away with a crucial 2-1 victory over No. 7 Grace in Winona Lake on Aug. 24.
    • As a result of their incredible play, senior midfielder Enzo Nogue earned both the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Offensive Player of the Week honors while senior defender Sebastian Rebolledo garnered the SAC Defense Player of the Week accolade.
    • Nogue was the center-piece of a stellar MACU attack as he netted a pair of goals, including the game-winning penalty kick over the Lancers and dished out an assist for five points while Rebolledo logged 135 strong defensive minutes as MACU completely shut down the Grace offense, limiting it to just one goal on three total shots while also playing down a man over the final 21 minutes of the second half.
    • As a result of the two outcomes, Mid-America Christian climbed two spots to No. 11 in this week's NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

    • Benedictine opened its season with a pair of high-quality home results last week as the Ravens started off the year with a 4-1 victory over Friends on Aug. 20 before taking down a Williams Baptist squad that is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll by a score of 3-0.
    • Overall, the Benedictine offensive attack has been prolific to start off the year, averaging 3.5 goals per game while the balance across the board has been effective with seven different players netting goals for the Ravens. As a team, BU is averaging 12.5 shots per game with 8.5 of those attempts being on-goal.
    • The Ravens have also been very sound defensively, limiting their opposition to just one goal on 14 shots (7.0 per game) with only six (3.0 per game) being on-target. Junior goalkeeper Noah Reuscher has been able to put a stop on most of the on-goal attempts, tallying four saves on an .800 save percentage over the first two matches.
    • Mid-America Christian and Benedictine will be setting to square off for the first time in the two programs respective histories.
