OKLAHOMA CITY – After pulling off a thrilling 1-0 victory on a last-second goal against Benedictine at the Dill Soccer Field on Friday, the No. 11 MACU men's soccer team welcomes another high-quality foe for a Labor Day afternoon showdown on Monday as the Evangels face off against Williams Baptist for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

SEASON REPORT

  • Top Performers:
  • Team Notes:
    • In its win over Benedictine, it appeared the Evangels and Ravens were going to play to a scoreless draw until Tony Ngombi had a loose ball come to him in the midfield with 10 seconds left before driving and dishing to Pietro Musso just outside the right edge of the 18-yard box. With just seconds remaining, Musso rifled off a last ditch shot on-goal that deflected off a defender and inside the right post with only a second remaining to wrap-up the 1-0 victory.
    • By getting the win, Mid-America Christian improved to 8-0-3 in the last two years against teams either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll at the time of competition.
    • MACU's defense was downright exceptional in the win, holding a high-powered Benedictine offense that entered the match averaging 3.5 goals on 12.5 shots per game to a season-low seven shots with just three being on-target.
    • The goal for Musso in that win marked his fourth career score for the Evangels and his second game-winner after netting an immaculate half-volley shot in a thrilling 1-0 win at John Brown (Ark.) last season.

    • Senior goalkeeper Rodrigo Pina has started the first two games in-net for Williams Baptist and while he didn't face a shot in the win over TAMUT, the keeper conceded three goals and made just two saves in the season-opening defeat to Benedictine.
