  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian put together an offensive outburst in its win over Science & Arts on Saturday night. After entering the match by netting just 10 goals through its first 11 matches, the Evangels pushed across five goals to run away with a 5-1 victory over the Drovers in their first Sooner Athletic Conference match at the Dill Soccer Field.
    • It was a coming out party for junior forward Haruya Higuchi, who started showing signs of being fully recovered from his high ankle sprain early in the season that cost him five games. Higuchi finished the match with five points, scoring a pair of goals and dishing out an assist. Ryan Jeanfreau also continued to pace the MACU offensive attack by netting the game-winning goal and tallying an assist for a three-point match.
    • After allowing only one goal in each match against Wayland Baptist and Science & Arts, two of the highest scoring teams in the SAC, senior defender Lucas Catosso was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week while also netting a goal in MACU's 5-1 win over the Drovers.
    • Since moving into the starting goalkeeper role, freshman Dante Caffaro has continued to put up some of the best numbers in the SAC. Possessing a 2-0-2 record in-goal, Caffaro currently owns the fifth-lowest goals allowed average (1.09) and third-best save percentage (.750) in the league. The Para de Minas, Brazil native has only allowed more than one goal in one of the five matches he's played in this season and owns an .818 save percentage in his last two matches.

    • The Lions defense has been outstanding thus far in the 2025 season, allowing only 1.09 goals per game and giving up just 35 shots on-goal in 11 contests, averaging just 3.2 shots on-goal per game.
    • On the offensive side, Nelson is scoring 2.00 goals per game, which ranks seventh in the SAC, but the Lions have struggled on the offensive front thus far in league play, tallying just 0.67 goals per contest, which is tied for the lowest rate in the conference.
    • Joel Palmer, Sergio Lopez Garcia, and Makel Mitchell have carried the scoring load for the Lions this season, netting 10 of Nelson's 22 goals this season while 11 different players have found the back of the net.
    • Defensively, the Lions have split time between freshman Amir Raime and junior Yajir Perez, with both keepers competing in six matches this year. Raime has been the more effective of the two keepers, posting a 2-1-2 record in-goal with a 0.93 goals allowed average. However, he has not had to face many shots as he is posting just a .643 save percentage.
    • Mid-America Christian has had a plethora of success against Nelson over the last six years, as the Evangels currently own a nine-game win streak in the series. More impressively, MACU's defense has managed to pitch eight shutouts in those nine contests while allowing only two goals in a 3-2 back on Oct. 14, 2023. In their last meeting at the Dill Soccer Field, the two teams squared off in the SAC Quarterfinal on Nov. 6, 2024, where the MACU defense held the Lions to only two shots on-goal while Josh Macklin netted the lone goal in the 29th minute to propel the Evangels to a 1-0 victory.
