Men’s Soccer to Meet Nelson in NCCAA Central Region Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Men's Soccer team and Nelson will meet one more time at the Dill Soccer Field as the two teams will square off for the NCCAA Central Region Championship on Friday with the contest slated for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

    • Mid-America Christian faced off against Dallas Christian in the NCCAA Central Region Semifinal at the Dill Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon as the Evangels came away with the 3-0 victory.
    • The Evangels defensively dominated the Crusaders in the match, holding DCC to only five shots and one shot on-goal, tying for the fewest shots on-goal the MACU defense had allowed all season.
    • Meanwhile, the MACU offense posted its most prolific offensive contest of the season, attempting a season-high 23 shots while recording double-digit shots on-goal for the first time this season with 10.
    • Elias Hirt and Haruya Higuchi paced MACU's offensive efforts with a goal and an assist apiece, Henry Tolbert notched his first career double-assist match with the Evangels, and Ryan Jeanfreau continued to be a goal-scoring machine for MACU with his 10th goal of the year and his fifth game-winner.

    • Nelson advanced to the NCCAA Central Region Championship following a thrilling semifinal result against Wayland Baptist on Tuesday. After the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation and two overtime periods, the contest went to a penalty kick shootout. While the Pioneers jumped out to a 2-1 lead through the first four PKs, the match flipped on its head when WBU failed to convert three straight penalties while Joao Delgado scored equalizer and Ricardo Lozano botted in the go-ahead to come away with the 3-2 advancement.
    • A SAC rival of MACU, Nelson enters Friday's match as the seventh-best scoring offense in the league, averaging 1.63 goals per game while also being sound on the defensive end, ranking second in the SAC in goals allowed average at 1.12.
    • The duo of Joel Palmer and Teddy Nkamanyi spearhead Nelson's offensive attack, netting 10 of the Lions' 22 goals this season. Meanwhile, freshman Amir Raime has been the primary leader for Nelson in-goal this season, posting a 1.07 goals allowed average and owns a .696 save percentage.
    • Mid-America Christian has dominated the recent series between the two sides as MACU has won the last 10 meetings since the 2019 campaign. During their regular season meeting at the Dill Soccer Field on Oct. 7, the Evangels cruised to a 3-0 victory, outshooting Nelson 14-7 with a 7-4 edge in shots on-goal while Ryan Jeanfreau, Haruya Higuchi, and Jimmy Cabrera ended up in the scoring column for MACU.
