No. 19 Men’s Soccer Looks to Create Opportunities against Columbia

OKLAHOMA CITY – In the midst of facing one of its most daunting non-conference schedules in program history, the No. 19 MACU Men's Soccer team is preparing for another tough home contest as the Evangels face off against Columbia (Mo.) at the Dill Soccer Field at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 1-4-2
  • Last Match: Lost vs. No. 4 Oklahoma Wesleyan – 2-0 – Sept. 11, 2025 – Dill Soccer Field
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian faced its toughest home test of the season last Thursday and after giving up a pair of first half goals, the Evangels played a much stronger second half but were unable to gain any ground on No. 4 Oklahoma Wesleyan to lose by a score of 2-0, snapping MACU's four-game win streak against the Eagles at the Dill Soccer Field.
    • The Evangels are currently on a four-game losing streak, it's longest streak since the 2016 season. However, the Evangels have also played incredibly strong competition during that four-game stretch, including three NAIA Top 25 teams as well as one more team that is receiving votes in the poll.
    • One of MACU's biggest challenges thus far is being able to find a finishing product on the offensive end as MACU has scored only five goals through the first seven games with two of those goals coming against No. 17 Keiser. Senior forward Ryan Jeanfreau has been the most prolific offensive attacker for the Evangels this season, scoring three of MACU's five goals on the year.
    • Traditionally a strong defensive team, the Evangels will also be looking to shore up its back line as MACU is currently allowing 1.86 goals per game while the opposition is putting 6.43 shots on-goal per contest.

  • Team Notes:
    • Columbia is coming out of an absolute shootout at Science & Arts on Saturday. The Cougars battled back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to the Drovers by scoring four second half goals to take the lead, but USAO's Callum Scott scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minute to force a 5-5 draw.
    • It was an offensive onslaught for a Cougars team that had scored only five goals through its first five matches. However, CC has had difficulty in the defensive third the last two matches as Columbia has given up 11 goals between the 6-1 loss at home to (RV) Midland (Neb.) on Sept. 10 before the result at USAO.
    • While being limited to just five shots, junior forward Josh Sutton has been incredibly efficient in his limited opportunities, netting a team-high four goals on those five on-target attempts while Cameron Watts has pitched in two goals and an assist for five points on the offensive end.
    • Defensively, Lindo Zimba has been the team's most on-field center-back with 521 minutes logged on the backline while Caden Hof has seen a bulk load of the time in-goal, making starts in four of CC's six matches this season while posting a team-best in goals allowed average, saves, and save percentage.
    • Monday's match will mark only the third ever meeting between the Evangels and Cougars. The two teams first met up at the Dill Soccer Field on Sept. 12, 2022 as MACU got goals from Luan Cesar and Rodrigo Albuquerque to secure the 2-0 victory. The two teams met up the following year on Sept. 20 in Columbia as the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw. MACU had a stout defense in the contest, limiting the Cougars to only two shots on-goal in the 90-minute contest.
