Men’s Soccer Opens SAC Play at Oklahoma City in Featured NAIA Game of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY – The rematch of last year's Sooner Athletic Conference Championship match will open conference play as the MACU Men's Soccer team will make the short trip up to Brian Harvey Field to face Oklahoma City at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night in one of the spotlighted NAIA Games of the Week.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 2-5-2
  • Last Match: Lost vs. Oklahoma Christian – 4-0 – Sept. 20, 2025 – Dill Soccer Field
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian closed out a brutally tough non-conference slate last Saturday at home against NCAA D-II Oklahoma Christian as the Evangels ultimately fell by a score of 4-0. MACU had to battle through an uphill climb for most of the match as OC jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first 19 minutes.
    • Despite the tough result against the Eagles, MACU managed to outshoot OC by a 12-10 margin. However, the Evangels struggled to put shots on-target as the Eagles' persistent defense held MACU to only two shots on-goal while OC's four on-frame shots found the back of the net.
    • MACU will look to utilize its tough non-conference slate to prepare itself for league play as the Evangels head into the 2025 conference slate as the four-time regular season SAC Champions, going 7-0-2 in league play a year ago.
    • While senior forward Ryan Jeanfreau has paced the MACU offensive attack, the Evangels are still looking for a finishing product from its team heading into league play. Entering SAC competition, the Evangels have netted the fewest goals in the conference with seven goals on the year, four of which have come in their two victories over McPherson and Columbia.

  • Team Notes:
    • Oklahoma City wrapped up its non-conference slate by pitching six-straight shutout victories before dropping a tough 2-0 decision at No. 6 Bellevue on Sept. 20. Much like the Evangels in their last match against Oklahoma Christian, the Stars managed to out-shoot the Bruins by a 14-11 margin in the match, however, OCU struggled to put shots on-frame by placing only two saved shots to eight targeted tries for BU.
    • Even though the Stars have also been challenged to find the back of the net as well, scoring only 2.11 goals per game for third-to-last in the SAC, the Stars have been incredibly stout on the back end, allowing the fewest goals in the conference at four, averaging only 0.44 goals per game.
    • The Evangels will need to contend with OCU's senior leadership in the attack as Bernardo Duarte leads the team with six goals, the third-most by any player in the SAC this season while Ruben Fahiya has also notched nine points off three goals and a team-high three assists.
    • Facing a dominant defensive backfield that has only allowed 23 shots on-goal in nine matches, senior goalkeeper Alexis Bertrand has been able to keep OCU's nets relatively clean by stopping 19 of those 23 attempts for a stellar .826 save percentage.
    • Mid-America Christian will be looking to get some revenge on Oklahoma City after the Stars stunned MACU in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship match last fall at the Dill Soccer Field. In that defensive slugfest where neither team managed to reach double-digit shots, Fahiya came up with the game-winning goal in the 79th minute to put a stop to MACU's four consecutive SAC Tournament Championship streak.
