Danny Frid

Danny Frid will be entering into his second season as the head coach of the MACU men's soccer program for the 2022 campaign and his fourth season overall with the Evangels.

In his first season at the helm of the program, Frid led the team to its winningest season in program history, ending the year with a 19-1-1 (.929) overall record and qualified for the NAIA National Championships for the second straight year. For the first time in program history, the Evangels won the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title with an 8-0-1 league mark and won the program's third SAC Tournament Championship with a 2-0 victory over Southwestern Christian at the Dill Soccer Field on Nov. 11, 2021.

In that highly-successful 2021 season, MACU picked up an astounding four wins against teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25, which includes a 3-2 win at No. 16 Georgia Gwinnett (9/6), a 5-1 victory over No. 22 Lyon (9/11), a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Bellevue (9/18) at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita and a 3-1 win over No. 22 Morningside (9/25). For the second straight year, the Evangels ended the campaign as the No. 9 ranked team in the NAIA.

Frid was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and had coached multiple All-SAC recipients, which included Rodrigo Albuquerque being named the SAC Player of the Year, Dejue Johnson the Defensive Player of the Year, Jack Price the Newcomer of the Year and Jeremi Abonnel the Goalkeeper of the Year. MACU placed five players on the First Team as Mateus Pasquantonio and Fabian Forisch joined Abonnel, Albuquerque and Johnson while Luan Cesar and Cesar Ramirez garnered Second Team accolades.

2021 was also a banner year for All-Americans under Frid as the Evangels tallied a record five NCCAA All-America accolades. Albuquerque was selected as the NCCAA Player of the Year while Johnson and Ramirez also earned First Team acclaim. Rounding out the All-America recipients were Forisch and Pasquantonio earning Second Team honors.

The Evangels also had four players recognized for NAIA All-America honors as Pasquantonio garnered Second Team honors, Albuquerque brandished a Third Team award while Abonnel and Johnson were selected as Honorable Mentions.

Frid was elevated to the head coaching role in June 2021 after spending the last two seasons as the head assistant coach of the program.

During the split 2020-21 season, Frid helped guide the Evangels to a 15-4-3 (.750) overall record and a 6-1-1 (.812) mark in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Evangels won their second ever SAC Tournament Championship after defeating Central Christian 3-0 in a post-game shootout after playing to a 0-0 draw at Evangel Field on Apr. 9, 2021. The Evangels finished as the No. 9 ranked team in the NAIA, its highest ranking ever since joining the organization in 2007.

The Evangels were also able to advance to the final site for the second time in the last three seasons, topping No. 14 Morningside (Iowa), winning another shootout 4-2 after playing to a 2-2 draw on Apr. 22. MACU followed it up by topping the top-seeded, No. 8 Bethel (Tenn.) 3-2 on Apr. 24, advancing on Mandela Singh-Sharpe's golden goal in double overtime.

Mid-America Christian put together its best defensive season in program history, allowing a record-low 0.79 goals per game while accumulating the second-best offensive season in the NAIA era, scoring 62 goals (2.82 per game) on 50 assists for 174 points.

MACU had three NCCAA All-Americans during Frid's second season, including Rodrigo Albuquerque (1st Team), Dejue Johnson (1st Team) and Sven van den Oever (2nd Team).

In his first campaign with MACU during the 2019 season, Frid played a pivotal role in leading the Evangels to the program's first ever NCCAA National Championship after defeating Grace College 5-0 on Dec. 7. It was the icing on the cake for the record-breaking year as MACU won a program record of games with a 20-3-1 overall record while also turning in its highest ever finish in Sooner Athletic Conference play, placing second in the standings with a 7-1-1 league record.

Under Frid, Mid-America Christian set multiple offensive and defensive NAIA era (2008-present) records, including: goals scored (94), assists (81), total points (267), shots (460), shots on-goal (235), goals against average (0.9) and shutouts (13).

Frid helped mentor five NCCAA All-Americans, including the NCCAA Player of the Year in Stephen Nganga, as well as Rodrigo Albuquerque (1st Team), Fabian Forisch (2nd Team), Allan Sorato (2nd Team) and Austen Parker (3rd Team).

Before joining the team, the native of Northamptonshire, England, has been involved as a club coach with the Oklahoma Energy Football Club since 2014, working with boys in the Energy's youth program at various levels. He is still a part of the Energy FC coaching staff and completed his seventh season with the club. In 2020, he was promoted to the NPL Director position.

He came to the US in the fall of 2010 and enrolled at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla., where he starred for the Eagles as a center back. He tallied a dozen goals and eight assists as the Eagles won the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference and the NCCAA Central Region Championship on their way to a sixth place finish at the NCCAA National Championship.

After a successful freshman campaign at SCU, Frid transferred to Missouri State University where he played for the Bears' Missouri Valley Conference championship team in 2011. He appeared in all 19 matches for the Bears that season, scoring a goal in a win over Drake in a match that helped MSU clinch a share of the MVC title.

After the season, Frid found himself down to one season of eligibility in the NCAA, so he transferred back to the NAIA where he had two campaigns remaining. He played the 2013 and '14 seasons for Oklahoma City University, and he helped the Stars to an 8-8-2 record as a junior. In his first season at OCU, Frid scored four goals and had two assists, but that was only setting the stage for his senior season. In 2014, Frid led the Stars to the SAC regular season title, and he secured SAC Player of the Year honors with six goals and two assists out of a defensive role for the Stars.

Frid currently holds a United States Soccer Federation "C" coaching license.

He married his wife Jordan in 2015, and the couple has one daughter, named Poppy. The family resides in Edmond, Oklahoma. Frid received his Master's Degree in Leadership at Mid-America Christian in 2022 and graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration in 2015.
